Lot 1342: Raleigh Model 14

Vintage Sale, Cheffins (19 October 2013)

Originally registered ML 5339 the Model 14 spent some years as part of the Shuttleworth collection, on its sale to a private buyer the original number was sold off and the age related current number applied, Section 3 of the current V5C still remains blank however. Whilst in the current ownership a policy of continuous improvement has been followed, the rear sprocket was re-machined and toothed and the wheel bearings replaced back and front, at the same time the brake was relined. This instrument operates on the rear wheel only with the handlebar lever raising one shoe for slowing down and the foot pedal raising both shoes for actual stopping, the vendor informs us that the new linings mean that the latter function can now be performed reliably but its still a matter for pre-planning. In 2012 the engine was re-bored by Peter Dawson Engineering who also manufactured a new piston, the bike is still in need of careful running in and judicious use of the rider operated oil plunger. New tyres were fitted in 2011 and the total loss lighting system operates from a 6V battery hidden in the toolbox (battery not supplied). A reliable starter stated to be in unrestored, oily rag condition having completed several Banbury Runs obtaining a Silver Award in 2011. Supplied with V5C, old MOT's the reluctant sale is due to the usual ravages of Anno Domini on the owner rather than the bike.
