Lot 160: Porsche 911SC

Classic - Collectors and Sports Cars, Barons (28 October 2013)

From its humble beginnings, as a 2.0 litre, flat six successor to the 365 in 1965, the 911 has become one of the world's most revered automobiles. The model has won in every form of motor sport and maintained a huge following over its 40 year history. By the early Seventies the 911 engine had grown to 2.2, then became a 2.4 and then the 2.7, which, in uprated form, powered the highly desirable RS. In the mid '70s the 3.0 barrier was breached and the Turbo was added to the fleet. The 911 SC was unveiled at the Frankfurt show in September 1977. Essentially this new 911 was very similar to the previous Carrera 3.0, with the same basic specifications, styling, and features. Power was up slightly from the previous 2.7 model, and a flatter torque curve made the car much easier to drive. In 1979 the SC's engine received modifications, increasing the power to 188bhp while improving fuel economy by 10 percent. Further improvements in 1980 pushed the power up to 204bhp making it good for 145mph with the 0-60 mph sprint achieved in 6.5 seconds. Offered here is a very early 911SC, which was first registered in January 1978. The car is said to be very original, with 65,000 miles, and comes with full history back to 1986. Imported from Hong Kong in 1997, the car had just two owners between 1986 and 2012 and has benefited from 8,500 worth of mechanical work in last 15,000 miles. These works included a new clutch in January this year, a gearbox re-build at 38,000 and a top end overhaul at 34,000. The car is equipped with modified chain tensioners, new heat exchangers and silencer etc., etc. Finished in Petrol blue metallic the car is described as having very good paint, a very good interior and comes complete with the original tools including air compressor to pump up the space saver spare.
