Lot 163: BMW 318i Convertible

Classic - Collectors and Sports Cars, Barons (28 October 2013)

The BMW E30 may have been a small step for mankind, but back in the 1980s, it was certainly a giant leap for BMW . The model was introduced in 1982 as a two door coupé, to replace the ageing E21 model. One year later, the four door saloon arrived, followed by the convertible in 1985 and touring in 1987. The vast array of chassis choice was all encompassing and catered to every market sector, which is why the E30 stayed in production for more than thirteen years. Offered here is an example from the final year of production of the 318i Convertible, which is said to have a strong engine and good, original interior. It has the free revving 1796cc, straight four engine, which is mated to an automatic transmission. Finished in metallic blue with black hood and grey leather interior, the car is equipped with alloy wheels, remote locking, power steering, electric windows and mirrors, plus a radio cassette player. The car has an MoT to September 19th 2014 and part service history. A second hand speedo head was fitted at 91,000 miles and the car has covered approximately 20,000 miles since. Described as being very good mechanically, with good bodywork and original leather interior, which is showing some wear.
