Lot 167: Porsche 944S2 Cabriolet

Classic - Collectors and Sports Cars, Barons (28 October 2013)

Using the 924 as a starting point for the 944, Porsche thoroughly re-worked the platform and scrapped the Volkswagen engine, installing in its place a new 2.5 litre straight-4 engine based on the 928's 5.0 litre V8, although very few parts were actually interchangeable. This new engine was factory-rated at 147 bhp. The 944 had more aggressive, revised bodywork, similar to that of the 924 Turbo and 924 Carrera GT, a fresh interior and upgrades to the braking and suspension systems. Porsche introduced the 944 in 1982/83 to great anticipation. In addition to being faster, the 944 was better equipped and more refined than the 924, it had better handling and stopping power and was more comfortable to drive. In 1989 the 944 S2 was introduced, with a new 3.0 211bhp engine. The 944 S2 had the same rounded nose and rear valance as found on the Turbo model and was now available as a Cabriolet, a first for the 944 range. Offered here is an excellent example of the Series 2 944 Cabriolet, which comes complete with comprehensive service history, which supports the indicated 103,000 miles as being correct. With services recorded at 125 - 5345 - 20718 - 31549 - 43669 - 53588 - 61866 - 66340 - 80257 - 99838 and 102062, a new owner can be assured of the car's history. This history is further enhanced by evidence of cam belt changes at 61866 and 102062 miles, plus a range of invoices. Finished in Guards Red with linen leather the car has recently benefited from new brake hoses and pipes, pas oil cooler, inner CV boots, fuel line replacement and Waxoyle treatment, these works costing over 1400.
