Ford Classic 109E Engine
|
Fords legendary Kent Engine first appeared in 1959 in the equally new Anglia 105E. In 1961 Ford added a new mid-sized saloon to its passenger car range, the Ford Classic. The 109E Classic was a controversial model for Ford and blended brave styling cues based on the smaller Anglia design, unfortunately its new engine received much criticism during its early production life. The Classic engine was basically a larger Anglia unit utilising the same cylinder block but with a revised crankshaft design which equated to a capacity of 1340cc. The new crankshaft shared the same hollow construction as the smaller Anglia unit which resulted in a lack of refinement. Ford did however fit an improved carburettor to the Classic which eliminated the Anglia's "flat spot", sadly this was not enough to make a drastic improvement to the cars performance. |
