Ford Sidevalve

Another one of Britains legendary, if not powerful, production engines can trace its origins as far back as the early 1930's when it first appeared in the Ford Y-type. The Ford Sidevalve engine served the FoMoCo well for many years in a variety of capacities. Early engines had no water pump and were crude and basic. A water pump first appeared in 1953 on the new 100E models, Ford had spent a great deal of many in re-tooling for what was an out of date power plant even in 1953!

As well as the small passenger cars the Ford Sidevalve engines found their way into a large variety of applications including: farm vehicles, small boats (marine versions), commercial vehicles and many post-war "Specials". The engine was eventually dropped from production in 1962.
