Standard/Triumph S6 OHV

One of Triumph's most important engines was undoubtedly its straight six unit, first seen during the 1950's in the Standard Vanguard. The first Triumph to make use of this impressive engine was the Vitesse 1600, launched a year ahead of the new 2000 in 1962. The Vitesse 1596cc engine was soon enlarged to a healthy 2 litres (1998cc) and found its way into other Triumph models.

The new Triumph 2000 range made its debut in 1963 and effectively replaced the Standard Vanguard. Its 1998cc engine was also used in the GT6, Vitesse 2-Litre (and Mk II) and larger (2.5-Litre/2498cc) versions were seen in the TR5. The TR5 and 2.5 PI saloons featured fuel injection and were developed for later models such as the TR6 and 2500S (non-injection).
