Berkeley sportscars were the combined effort of designer Laurie Bond and the Bedfordshire based caravan manufacturer, Berkeley. The Berkeley cars were certainly a clever design concept, using lightweight glass-fibre bodies, a radical front wheel drive layout and motorcycle engines to great effect.

The first Berkeley cars entered production in 1956, by 1958 the Austin Healey "Frogeye" Sprite had arrived, providing stiff competition. Despite the pressures from its rivals Berkeley continued to produce three and four wheeled cars up until 1961.
