Overview

As early as in 1898, the 100,000th bicycle left the factory under the name of Adler.  In addition to bicycles, typewriters were also taken into production that same year, followed by the first automobile in 1900.  The vehicle was powered by a one-cylinder De Dion engine placed in the front and was fitted with a three speed gearbox with a column gearshift.  In 1913, Adler had eight different models in its range.  But World War I threw a spanner in the works.  As a result of tremendous post war inflation the company almost went bankrupt.  Adler stopped with the production of cars after the war.  The company limited its activities to the production of typewriters and motorbikes.
