Short Ashby

The prototype of this cyclecar was designed by Victor Ashby and the car was put into production by aeroplane makers Short Brothers. It had a flat-twin Coventry-Victor engine of either 5/6 or 8hp, friction transmission and ifs. Fewer than 50 of these were made by Shorts, and the next design had a 970cc 4-cylinder Ruby engine and a choice of friction transmission of a Moss 3-speed gearbox. Some of these were also made by Shorts, but they abandoned it because of disappointing sales, and the design was taken up by a new company in Manchester. About 180 cars were made in all, under the names Short-Ashby or Ashby.
