Overview

1903-1908

Cars of this name were sold by B Thompson & Co, of Frome, Somerset, but as with at least fifty other 'makes' sold in France, Britain and its Empire, and elsewhere in Europe, they were made by the Parisian firm of Lacoste & Battmann, and powered by Aster or De Dion-Bouton engines.

In its advertising Thompson described the cars as being "Made in the Engineering Centre of the West which cast the monument of Boadicea for the Thames embankment and Alfred the Great for Winchester." The firm was also astute in the choice of the name for its cars, cleverly describing the Achilles as "vulnerable only in the tyre". Despite the firm's engineering abilities, it seems improbable that Thompson ever constructed from scratch any of the various cars that it sold.
