Overview

Few cars were built in Switzerland after World War II so that there was astonishment when an Enzmann was exhibited at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1957.  The car had been built by garage owner Emil Enzmann of Lucerne who developed the Enzmann 506 with his six sons.  The car was designated "506" late into the project because that was the stand number at the Frankfurt show.  In common with many specials of those days, the car was based on the running gear of a Volkswagen Beetle with a polyester body.  The design was by Emil Junior.  The 506 had no doors, making the body stronger and construction much simpler.  The driver and passenger had to climb in over the side. The Enzmann could be supplied as a kit on request but the majority of the one hundred plus cars made in Schupfheim between 1957-1968 were delivered ready-to-run.  In addition to a VW Beetle engine, Porsche engines were also available.
