Overview

The Audi car company was founded in 1909 by August Horch. Horch was prevented from using his own name for the new company so used the Latin translation of Horch instead = Audi. From 1909 until 1918 the company established itself a reputation for building well engineered small cars, from 1918 onwards the company branched out into larger models.

After being purchased by DKW in 1928 the firm concentrated on producing front wheel drive cars, in 1932 it became part of the Auto Union empire. After a break from production Audi started to establish itself from the mid-Sixties with the introduction of the new 60/70/75/80 and 90 models. Throughout the 70's and 80's the firm became more respected which led to development and production of the world famous Quattro models.

Today Audi survives as one of the premium brands within the VW Group producing high quality models ranging from the A2, A3, A4, A6, A8 and TT, Audi looks set to enjoy a successful future.
