Reliant
Overview
One of Britains last remaining independent car companies, Reliant, originally started as a license built version of the Raleigh Safety Seven, a three wheeled van that used an Austin Seven engine. These vans were very popular and were soon followed by Reliant designed models such as the Regal.
The Regal was available as a passenger car as well as the usual van version. Perhaps the most famous Regal is the version produced between 1962-72 an example of which can be seen in the BBC comedy "Only Fools and Horses". Other three wheeled models have included the infamous "Robin" which is often ridiculed by comedians! (quite undeservedly so, the fact remains that these small three wheeled vehicles have been in constant demand for nearly 40 years!).
Reliant is also well known for its sporting four wheeled models, such as the Sabre, Scimitar and SS1 Sports model. At the moment the company continues to produce its three wheeled cars, still using its own unique engine design, whilst fans await to see if a replacement Scimitar will ever appear.
