Overview

In 1951, Daphne Arnott became perhaps the world's only female racing car constructor when, working with George Thornton, the manager of her family's garage business, she designed a 500cc Formula 3 car.  It was made in small numbers but the marque achieved little success in racing, although it had better luck with a streamlined record breaker.  A production sports car came in 1955, and two years later, there was a sports-racer and a racing GT car, both with Climax engines.  The latter ran at Le Mans in 1957, its only race, but retired with a dropped valve; that failure wiped out the little company and Arnott ceased making cars.  Superchargers had long been part of the Arnott business, and the firm made special kits to boost road cars.
