Former BMW engineer, Alex von Falkenhausen set up a small racing and tuning shop in Munich after the Second World War. His first products were BMW 328 specials but he made his name with BMW-based single seaters, the first of which was made in 1949. AFMs performed well in German F2 races and provided the chief threat to Veritas. On the back of its racing successes, in 1951 AFM made an attempt to market a four/five seat luxury coupe which used the running gear from the 60bhp six-cylinder 2.5 litre Opel Kapitan. Apparently it did not proceed beyond the prototype stage and soon afterwards von Falkenhausen returned to BMW.
