Mercedes 'S' Class & 600 1965-72

The first of the new S-models was introduced in 1965 and between then and 1972 produced in a bewildering array of different versions. For the first six years the main models all had six-cylinder engines; a V8 was in the line-up from 1968; and smaller V8s replaced most of the six-cylinder models for the last year of production. There were three different bodyshells, ten W108 models and five W109. The 600 was a challenger to Rolls-Royce. Introduced in 1964 it was still acceptable as VIP transport more than 20 years after it ceased production.
