Jowett Jupiter, a Car for Road Rally and Race

The eye-catching Jowett Jupiter burst onto the motoring sceme in 1950 and was instantly successful in national and international competition.  Jowett had since its Edwardian origins produced individualistic, stylish if uncomplicated light cars and commercials even producing as far back as 1928 the world's first hatchback.  Following World War II the Jowell Bradford van earned a well-deserved reputation for hard-slogging reliability combined with an outrageous carrying capacity, but it was the Javelin  saloon and Jupiter sports cars that offered Jowett owners for the first time a high level of sophistication and refinement combined with agility and sporting performance.

This book tells the story in an engaging manner of Jowett's last, most expensive and fastest model, and its remarkable sporting and other achievements in the early 1950s.  It also takes a fresh look at the factors underlying the demise of the company and the possible involvement of other parties.

The author has owned Jupiters since 1969 and has been collecting information on the make and model since that date.  He is the Jupiter Registrar of the Jowett Car Club (UK) and Registrar of the Jupiter Owners' Auto Club.  He has written a book on the Jupiter (The Jowett Jupiter - the Car that Leaped to Fame, Batsford 1981) and has co-authored the standard work on Jowett cars and the Jowett car firm The Complete Jowett History Foulis 1991, as well as Jowett Javelin and Jupiter the Complete Story - 2003 Crowood.

Foreward by Gordon Wilkins. Illustrations: 66 monochrome and 7 colour.
