Thunderbird Performance Portfolio 1964-1976

Introduced in 1955 as a luxury two-seater the Thunderbird gradually changed over the years with the open version only selling 7.5% of the total by 1966. The 1964-67 range was the last to offer a convertible version and was now a luxury car with no sportiness. The 1967 models had four doors, an engine tuned for refinement not performance and a bulky body. Sales declined. The 1972 models reversed this decline although hit by the oil crisis of 1974. Interest was kept alive with a number of special editions.
