Bonhams Collector's Car Sale In Monaco
Bonhams annual auction at the Principality’s Motor Museum in Monaco on 18th May, once again created much anticipated excitement and a sale total of €4.7m.
While the strength of the euro kept British buyers out of the running for the fabulous collection of 170 lots of automobilia and collectors’ motor cars, the strength of American and European interest more than compensated.
The star of the show was lot 234, that sold for €964,500, this was the ex-Jean-Pierre Jabouille/Jean-Louis Schlesser/Oliver Grouillard/Jaques Lafitte/Hurley Haywood/Michel Ferte 1990 Ferrari F40 LM Competition Berlinetta.
Lot 256, the 1966 Porsche 906 two seat Endurance Racing Coupe associated with Mike de Udy, Pieter de Klerk and Colin Davis sold for €579,500.
James Knight, International MD for Collector’s Cars at Bonhams said after the sale: “On the whole, we were pleased with our sell rate of 65 per cent for the entire sale. This is down on the 85%+ average we’ve achieved year to date and, if a lesson need be learned, it is to be more diligent with vendors’ expectations. In today’s market it is important to offer motor cars at attractive levels. We demonstrated that each time we did that, the depth of bidding was good, and healthy prices were achieved. As a motor car auction house operating – and selling – on three continents in multi currencies, it is a tremendously exciting time.”
