It's always good to see new ideas for events coming along and Prescott Hill Climb (near Gotherington, Gloucestershire) will see a new one on May 26-27 that fits perfectly with the location.
La Vie en Bleu - French for 'Life in Blue' refers to the French racing colour of blue and heralds Prescott's first French-themed day a natural route for a location that is owned and run by the Bugatti Owners Club. Naturally, Bugattis will be present 'en force', from the wonderful Vintage machinery with which we all associate the name to a stunning new Bugatti Veyron 16.4. The V16-engined car which on the level can accelerate to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds and 200mph in 20 seconds, will be driven up the hill by French former F1 driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel, now top test driver for Bugatti.
Renault have promised to bring along one of this season's F1 racers for the weekend and many less prestigious French cars will be there too, as your Editor can testify, having been invited by the Matra Enthusiasts Club to display his 1990 Renault Espace Quadra (of which I now have three! Ed).
Set in beautiful countryside and full of atmosphere, the Prescott hillclimb is a great spectacle and there will be plenty of action on the hill over the weekend. Tickets cost 20 for the weekend or 12 Saturday/15 Sunday, with under-15's free. There's more information on www.bugatti.co.uk, while tickets are being sold through the local tourist bureau at Cheltenham Town Hall on 01242 227979 or online at http://www.cheltenhamtownhall.org.uk..
