Be honest, we're all fascinated by what movies our favourite cars, bikes or trucks have appeared in and classic car magazines often contain articles on good movies for seeing classic cars.
But when you think about it, virtually every movie has some street scenes, with cars passing, cars parked in the background and so on - there must be literally millions of different cars that pop up briefly in films and just occasionally, when watching old movies, we spot something rare or special in the background.
Incredibly, some very busy folks have gone beyond the occasional wife-infuriating "Wow, look at that xxxx in the background!" followed by even more infuriating pausing and rewinding frame-by-frame, and have catalogued every appearance of every car in just about every movie, ever.
Don't believe me? Take a look at www.imcdb.org. In fact it's not just movies - it covers TV documentaries too. Don't be fooled by the initial A-Z listing of makes on the home page click on 'View Full Listing' and you'll find hundreds more the research that has gone in to this site is staggering and its not just a listing there is an image for every listed appearance.
Click on the make first, then click on the thumbnails and an image will come up - OK, its low resolution, but its absolutely fascinating stuff. Just take Bond Cars as an example - not surprisingly the Bond Bug's appearance in Get Carter is documented but there are also a couple of appearances of GT4S Bond Equipes and even a Bond Minicar a MkC, www.imcdb.org/vehicle_98555-Bond-Minicar-Mark-C.html in a lovely street scene from a documentary called 50s and 60s in living colour.
If you enjoy detective work, there are 89 pages of unidentified clips needing help to identify make or model, great fun to sift through (I've just identified one!). A word of warning, though: start looking at this website and youll be there for hours...
