To create new market segments, Hudson built the Jet in 1952. This was a small car in American terms that looked more like an Opel Olympia than a Hudson. The Jet had no family resemblance whatever with a Hudson. This relatively small car had a 104 in (2,650 mm) wheelbase and was 180 3/4 in (4,590 mm) long. The 3,310 cc engine gave 105 bhp in the Jet and 115 bhp in the Super Jet. Unfortunately the car was too expensive to sell and only a little over 21,000 of them were sold in 1953. The following year this was a mere 14,000 which caused losses of tens of million of dollars.
