tvr taimar se T H E L A S T T A I M A R ?many ads have appeared where owners claim: ''last taimar made''.. perhaps someone may enlighten me. in march 1983, a widebody taimar se - rolled out of blackpool with all the turbo features but no turbo. it was a special order from mr.john mcgovern of letterkenny, donegal, ireland. john immediately drove the car home. sadly, he had written-off his tuscan the previous year. i first encountered the car and owner in october '83 while driving along a narrow quiet donegal road in my 1600 m. by march 1984 i bought the taimar. it is navy with cream model-band. the build-sheet and build-invoice are all there. is it the last taimar ? i'm not sure. the works-manager was negotiable from what i hear. having placed the car in ''correct storage mode'' in september 1985, it has 42k miles (genuine obviously) and i plan to restore it in time. never exposed to salt, the work will be cosmetic and to concours. sorry - (no photo). if someone is building a register. contact me as i would like to include the car and provide further details. while it's a fabulous car, i would like advice as to originality in restoration. it is very tempting to go non-concours. brakes could be landcruiser 4pot. diff could be nissan 200. most tr6 upgrades could apply. even a t5 box would be nice. so i could make it concours in a non-concours sense if that makes sense. perhaps someone may advise what route i ought take. i hope to begin a 5 year restoration (weekends) next year. will someone please tell me if this is the last taimar out of blackpool?john stack - crosshaven, cork, ireland.

V-8 Taimar # 4283 This was a very nice car that we bought in the summer of 2007 from Joe Marotta in Toronta Ontario Canada. We had watched the car while it was for sale for close to 2 years. When new it was 1 of 7 manufactured in cooperation with TVR Engineering Limited with a five litre ( 302 ) plus other features by John Wadman of TVR North America and licensed as a 5000 series car for the Canadian market. ( We have articles stating that John does the best V-8 conversions.) Since we bought and relocated it to Calgary, Alberta. Canada we have gone from front to rear and top to bottom on a resto that has takin over 8 months. We even stroked the 302 to a 347. We had TVR's logo lasered and painted on the valve covers for a personal touch. It will now be able to out live me and give one of my daughters many years of fun and faithful enjoyment. It will be a driver and not a trailor queen. It also just won 2nd place / Outstanding in Class at the local World of Wheels here in Calgary. It was beat out by what we heard was close to a 10 year resto. ( Well done Stephanie and watch out for our 79 Taimar next year. ) This car was scary with the 302 and the 347 makes it even more fun to drive. |
