A different large VW was launched in 1968 under the name 411 and 412 for the estate version. The concept of a rear-mounted air-cooled boxer engine had not changed but this new model was bigger in every respect than its predecessors. These new cars were supplied with two different engines: a 1,679 cc and after 1973 with a 1,795 cc unit.
