Thurner should have managed to sell more of his cars with their robust tubular chassis, first class engine, and beautiful body. The performance of the Thurner with its 112 mph (180 km/hour) top speed from its 1,177 cc/65 bhp at 5,500 rpm NSU engine was good. The engine was easy to maintain for those days.
In 1972 the RS cost a mere DM 14,450.
