Jaguar/Daimler updated its flagship XJ12 and Double Six models in 1973 and introduced the same styling changes as it had done on the six cylinder XJ6/Sovereign range. This new facelift included the standardisation of the long wheel base body that had been optional on the Series I cars, which meant improved leg room for the rear passengers.
The Series II sported a new, lower profile front grille complete with a larger, rectangular air intake beneath the front bumper. The engine now produced 285bhp and 1975 saw the introduction of a much improved GM gearbox. The XJ12 and Double Six models remained steady sellers for Jaguar/Daimler and continued in production until the arrival of the 1979 Series III cars.
