A breakthrough came with the A110 of 1963, a car which established the classic Alpine shape. It was available as a cabriolet, but most buyers preferred the coupé. The A110 began with an 1108cc 87bhp Renault R8 engine but, bu the time production ceased in 1977, engines of up to 180bhp were used, and these cars were particularly successful in rallying.
