Jaguar XJ5.3C

Overview

Produced: 1975-1977, 1873 produced.
Types: Coupe, 2 doors, 5 seats

In 1975 Jaguar launched two new coupe versions of its popular XJ6 and XJ12 saloons, the XK12 based version was called the XJ5.3C.

The XJ5.3C used the same pillarless bodyshell shared with the six cylinder version, meaning that it also shared the same wind noise problems around the glass area, a quality problem that was difficult to cure in the 1970's.

The XJ5.3C came in short wheel base format and featured a vinyl roof that helped disguise the thickness of the "C" pillars as well as being a popular 70's styling feature. The 5343cc V12 developed a healthy 285bhp which could propel this glamorous car up to 150mph and also allowed it to guzzle petrol at an alarming rate!

After a turbulent two year production run the XJ5.3C was dropped from the Jaguar range, less than 2,000 cars had been built.
