Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Saloon

Overview

Produced: 1971-1972, 11309 produced.
Types: Saloon, 4 doors, 5 seats

The first "S-class" Mercedes arrived in 1968, the 280S and 280SE. The 280 saloons were large, full size saloons which offered comfort and luxury to its five occupants. Built on a 108ins wheelbase the new S-Class saloons were much heavier than earlier models, although the styling was more subtle and lass garish.

Although the 280 was usually powered by a 2.8 litre six Mercedes rather confusingly added a V8 engined 280SE to the range. The 280SE 3.5 had a 3.5 litre V8 engine and came with automatic transmission and power steering. These massive saloons were well equipped and extremely powerful. The 280SE 3.5 would reach a top-speed of 125mph and offered effortless high-speed cruising coupled with supple ride comfort.
