After a long production run the Renault 12 finally made way for its successor in 1978, the Renault 18. The 18 had modern styling and still featured the trusty front wheel drive layout that proved to be so popular with the 12.
The 18 was not really a revolutionary model, although it was the first European model to use the new Renault 1.4 litre petrol engine. Both a turbocharged petrol and an economical diesel engine versions were also available during the cars nine year production life.
