Although similar in appearance to the old 2000 model the 1973 2200 was welcome update for this popular Rover saloon. The P6 range had set new standards for performance and refinement when it first appeared in 1963 and was so advanced that it never needed much in the way of facelifts.
The 2200 used a larger (2205cc) version of the original 2000 overhead cam engine and produced 98bhp in SC form. As before a high performance TC model was available with twin carbs. The 2200TC had 115bhp to ensure that it performed well, in fact it was close to the V8 P6 in some areas!. The 2200 range continued to sell in healthy numbers up-until the arrival of the SD1 cars in 1976.
