In a bid to take on the might of the Ford Capri, Opel launched its own small coupe, the Manta Coupe in 1970. Like the Capri the Manta shared its platform and running gear with a saloon model, in this case the equally new Opel Ascona.
A choice of engines were available for the Manta including 1196cc, 1584cc engines and later, a 1897cc unit. With all-coil suspension and front discs the small coupe came with a good level of equipment and proved to be a pleasant car to drive.
