The R-Type Continental sowed the seeds for the S-Type Continentals although they never had the same uniqueness of the original car.

Based on the S-Type saloon (later Known as the S1) the Continental again carried some exquisite examples of British Coachbuilding.

Manual transmission was available until 1957, although few cars were built, power steering became standard soon after. A vast array of body styles were available such as 2 door Fastback, 2 Door Saloons, Dropheads 4 and 6 light Sports Saloons. Coach builders chosen tended to be H.J. Mulliner, Park Ward, Hooper and James Young.
