The first true "BMC era" big Wolseley arrived in 1954 to replace the highly successful 6/80, the new model became known as the 6/90. The 6/90 was a blend of Riley Pathfinder body (although with many design differences) and a smooth, C-Series, 2639cc, six cylinder engine which could be found in many other BMC products of the time.
The 6/90 had a higher body than the Pathfinder, although this did not detract from its graceful Gerald Palmer styling. All of the usual Wolseley features could be found, including illuminated grille badge, wood and leather interior trim.
The Wolseley 6/110 first appeared in 1961 as a replacement for the previous 6/99 model and formed the mid-range car in the Austin/Wolseley/Vandem Plas big saloon line-up. The 6/110 looked little different at a first glance however, in line with the A110 Westminster, it differed in having a longer wheel-base, modified rear suspension, power steering, floor mounted gear-change and a twin-pipe exhaust system.
The 6/110 remained popular with nations Police forces who used them as traffic patrol cars, indeed the 6/110 was one of the first Police cars to feature the infamous flashing blue light, a fearful sight in any speeding motorists rear view mirror!
