In 1956 BMC decided to "freshen up" its range of family cars, as part of this facelift programme a Series III Oxford appeared. The Series III received a more powerful (55bhp) 1489cc B-series engine which helped to improve performance, a semi-automatic gearbox also became an optional extra.

The Oxford Series III now had a much cheerier two-tone paint finish, other styling improvements included deeper headlamp cowls and small rear wing "fins" which were all the rage in 1956!. The interior also received some styling changes and an improved layout of the minor controls.
