Following on from the success of the 1100 range BMC launched the additional 1300 models in 1967 at the same time as it announced the 1100 MKII (therefore all Morris 1300's were built to MKII 1100 spec). The 1300 offered better performance which came from the 1275cc A-series engine (a detuned Mini Cooper unit) and an all synchromesh gearbox.

Bodies were identical to the 1100 MKII incorporating the new grille, tail lamps and cut down rear wingtop fins. In 1969 a Morris 1300GT was added to the range which was identical to the Austin 1300GT. The GT versions boasted twin SU carbs, a rev counter, sporty trim and wheels. Finally a MKIII Morris 1300 appeared in 1971 which featured a new facia and minor trim changes, production of the 1300 ceased in 1973.
