There was far less room in the XJS than an XJ coupe. The power unit was the same V-12 engine driving the wheels in the standard version through an automatic gearbox although a manual five-speed box was available as an option. The wheelbase of the XJS was a mere 102 in (2,590 mm) yet it was 191 3/4 in (4,870 mm) long. The official top speed was in excess of 150 mph (240 kph).
