Mercedes added a touch of glamour to its mid-range 200 series by including attractive Coupe and Cabriolet versions as alternatives to the usual four door saloon body. Available in either 220S or 220SE (fuel injected) specification both models used a 2195cc six cylinder engine and a servo assisted brake system.
The 220S/SE Coupes used a two door, "two-light" (meaning one window on each side) fixed head coupe body, similar to the American Hard-Top styles which were fashionable at the time. These coupes were elegantly styled and built to the highest standards and were very expensive when new.
