Perhaps the rarest and most unusual post-war model to emerge from Mercedes was the 300S (and later 300SC) launched in 1951. Both models were based on the already impressive 300 Saloon range and used a shortened saloon chassis. A triple-carb, 150bhp, 3.0 litre engine powered the 300S which was replaced in 1956 by the fuel injected 300SC.

Both models were offered with a choice of beautifully proportioned Coupe, Cabriolet and Roadster bodies. Standard equipment included an all synchromesh gearbox and servo brakes were available as an option (standard on the 300SC). These two bespoke models continued in production until 1958.
