In 1965 Mercedes replaced its 220 and 220S with improved 230 versions. The new cars featured larger, more powerful engines, servo assisted disc brakes and a choice of floor or column gear-change. Options for the 230 and 230S included power steering, automatic transmission and hydropneumatic suspension.
Visually the 230 models looked much the same as the previous 220 saloons. The 230S featured "stacked" headlamps and both saloons sported the subtle "Fintail" rear wings. The 230 used a twin-carb 2281cc, six cylinder engine which produced 105bhp. Production continued until 1968.
