Ford replaced the Phase 2 version of the Taunus 17M in 1960 with a new Phase 3 model. Most of the changes were confined to the cars cosmetic appearance, although the high performance TS version had front disc brakes and could reach 90mph.
The 17M Phase 3 looked very similar to the much later UK built Corsair, it certainly must have looked quite advanced when it first appeared in 1960. Production continued until 1964.
Further information submitted:
The standard engine was 1.5 ltr, 55hp. the 1.7 and 1.8 engines were optional. 3 gear transmission was standard, optional was a 4 gear box.
The car was a complete Ford of Germany project - the P3 in fact does mean "Projekt 3". Ford UK was not involved.
