The Ford Prefect E93A first appeared in 1938 and formed the upper part of the European small Ford range. Body styles included two and four door saloons as well as a rare open Tourer model. The Prefect proved to be a popular model in the British colonial markets and sold well both before and after WW2.

The Prefect used a 1172cc version of the Ford sidevalve engine. Production of the E93A ceased in 1949, a facelifted Prefect E493A took over and continued until the arrival of the 100E in 1953.
