Ford replaced the Anglia range in 1968 with an all new model, the Ford Escort. The Escort used a brand new unitary construction bodyshell and came with a choice of trim levels and engines. As well as the usual "base", deluxe and Super models a GT version was also available for more sporting owners.
The Escort GT came as either a two or four door saloon and used a 75bhp version of the 1298cc, 1.3 litre engine. Standard equipment included a special Weber carburettor, servo assisted disc brakes, close ratio gearbox and wider road wheels.
