Ford replaced the Anglia range in 1968 with an all new model, the Ford Escort. The Escort used a brand new unitary construction bodyshell and came with a choice of trim levels and engines. As well as the usual "base", deluxe and Super models a GT version was also available for more sporting owners.
The Escort GT came as either a two or four door saloon and used a 75bhp version of the 1298cc, 1.3 litre engine. Standard equipment included a special Weber carburettor, servo assisted disc brakes, close ratio gearbox and wider road wheels. The Escort GT was the first of many different Escort sports models and stayed in production until 1974.
