The Javelin was a response to the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Various engines could be installed, from a "small" 3.8 litre six-cylinder (147 bhp) to a 5.6 litre V-8 that delivered 284 SAE bhp, which made the car dangerously fast.
