The Sonett III was destined for the American market. The press there were very critical with Road & Track writing: "It's a tragedy the styling is so miserable," and "... the styling may bring tears of despair and frustration to the eyes of the serious student of automobile design."
Despite its bad reviews there, most Sonett III's were sold in America. There is a special edition with a fold-back opening roof.
