The J72 represented Jankel and 1972, when the company was founded. In contrast to the glass-fibre reinforced polyester of his competitors, Jankel built aluminium bodies. In 1972, the Panther J72 cost £4,655.
The Panther J72 had a purely passing resemblance to a Jaguar SS 100 when seen from a distance but was much more expensive than an E-Type Jaguar.
