Peugeot launched its first "Supermini" in 1972, the 104. The 104 had modern, boxy styling featuring the option of three or five door hatchback or saloon bodies. The 104 body was also shared with the less popular, almost identical Citroen LN models.
The Peugeot 104 came with a choice of all-alloy engines, ranging in size from 954cc, 1124cc, 1219cc and 1360cc, all set back at an angle of 72 degrees. The 104 also sported all-round independent coil-spring suspension and front wheel drive. Production of the 104 carried on until 1988.
