The Firebird was improved and made faster through development to make the successul Trans Am. It had a new body but a smaller engine with a conventional camshaft.
Formula 400 and Trans Am racing was new at that time. The Trans Am had a 6,558 cc V-8 engine that developed 350 SAE at 5,000 rpm and had a top speed of 125 mph (200 km/hour).
